Richard is a conductor, singer, and educator. Born in the San Francisco Bay Area, Richard holds degrees
from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and the University of Oregon in Voice and Choral Conducting, respectively.
Following his degrees, Richard returned to San Francisco where he was a director for the San Francisco Boys
Chorus and taught in the public schools. Since moving to the Twin Cities Richard has become very active in
the vibrant music community. He serves as Artistic Director of the Calliope Women’s Chorus, Music director for
Glendale United Methodist Church, and teaches full time
at Burroughs Community School. Richard has sung professionally with the Minnesota Chorale, the SPCO Chorale,
Magpies and Ravens, and IMPLS. Richard is married to Jessica Schroeder, who recently completed a DMA at the
University of Minnesota in collaborative piano.
Loren Squires - Founding Director Emeritus
Loren retired from active directing in December 2010 after leading SMC for 13 years.
Loren received his B.M.E. from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, and his M.M.E.
at MacPhail College of Music. He taught public school music education for 39 years,
the last 35 at Burnsville High School. He was formerly Assistant Director of the Bach
Society Chorus and a member of the Minnesota Chorale. Loren has also directed choirs
at five area churches and was a professor of music at North Central University.
